Open to sites specific to the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the largest international women's organization in the world. The Relief Society serves women 18 years and older with weekly lessons, as well as the monthly programs of Visiting Teaching, and Home, Family, and Personal Enrichment. On Thursday, March 17, 1842, twenty women gathered together in the upper room of the Red Brick Store [in Nauvoo, Illinois], and under the direction of the prophet Joseph Smith, were organized into "The Female Relief Society of Nauvoo". Speaking of its purpose the prophet said that this "society of sisters might provoke the brethren to good works in looking to the wants of the poor?searching after objects of charity, and in administering to their wants - to assist by correcting the morals and strengthening the virtues of the community." (Minutes of the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo, 17 Mar. 1842, p. 13.)
