Jubei is a wandering warrior in Ancient Japan. His wits are sharper then a sword and his courage matches with that of a lion. A mysterious plague is sweeping through the Shimota village and a team of Koja Ninja have been sent to investigate. The Koja are ambushed by a mysterious and strong enemy hidden within the shadows and all are killed except one. The one to survive was a female, Kagero, a warrior with a very strange skill used for murdering her attackers. Kagero is taken by the mysterious enemy and then saved by Jubei. Later Jubei is saved by an old ninja spy named Dakuwan. Together Jubei, Kagero, and Dakuwan learn that the shadow man was one of the Eight Devils of Kimone, and that they are now after Jubei for destroying one of them. The plot begins to thicken as more and more information is revealed...
