Post-modern Finnish composer and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen (1958-) began learning music early and his compositions were being performed and recorded before his twenty-fifth birthday. His conducting career began with London's Philharmonia Orchestra and he later took the baton of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
