The Sweet comprised Brian Connolly (vocals), Mick Tucker (vocals and drums), Frank Torpey (guitar; he was replaced in 1971 by Andy Scott), and Steve Priest (bass).

The band was originally a light U.K. pop band called the Sweetshop, changed their name and their sound when they were signed in 1970. They had several hits under the musical direction of songwriters Nickly Chinn and Mike Chapman, including "Ballroom Blitz," "Teenage Rampage," and the platinum hit "Blockbuster, but the band wrote many of its own album and B-side tracks.

By late 1974, the band had decided to record only its own music, without Chinn and Chapman's help. They had a hit in the U.K. and U.S. with "Fox on the Run" in 1975 and "Love is Like Oxygen" in 1978.

The band broke up in 1982.>
