Tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders was actually named "Farrell" Sanders, and was born on the 13th of October, 1940 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He gained fame for his lyric expressionistic playing in John Coltrane's ensembles of the mid 1960's, and was noted for his jazz interpretations of spirituality.
