Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson as his full name is, was born 1956 in Peekskill, State of New York. In 1960s his family moved to Australia and therefore he is known as Australian actor. Since 1970s he has acted in more than 50 films both in cinema and TV. He made his debut 1977 in movie "Summer City" as Scollop. However, his best known performances include Mad Max in the movies with the same title (1979, 1981, 1985), Martin Riggs in "Lethal Weapon" movies (1987, 1989, 1992, 1998), Justin McLeod in "The Man Without a Face" (1993), Bret Maverick in "Maverick" (1994), William Wallace in "Braveheart" (1995), Tom Mullen in "Ransom" (1996), and Nick Marshall in "What Women Want" (2000) to name just a few. Since 1992 he has been also active as a producer. For example, "Braveheart" and "Airborne" are at least partially produced by him. "Braveheart" and "The Man Without a Face" were also directed by him.
