Ian McKellen - British stage actor, appearing occasionally in films, born 25th May 1939, Burnley, Lancashire. He has appeared in several film productions of Shakespeare's works including his well received 'Richard III' (1995), and recently as Gandalf in 'The Lord of the Rings' films. He was knighted in 1990.
