Estelle Getty was born as Estelle Scher 1923 in New York. She started her acting career quite late - 1978 in "Team-Mates". Her most famous appearance on screen is Sophia Spirelli Petrillo-Weinstock in three TV series - "The Golden Girls" (1985), "Empty Nest" (1992-1995), and "The Golden Palace" (1992).
