The St Croix sheep, also known as Virgin Island White, are a hair sheep that is well suited to warm climates, with exceptional parasite resistance. Both rams and ewes are polled. They are usually white, but can be found in solid tan, brown, black, or white with brown or black spots. They are prolific, averaging 150% to 200% lambing rates, with two lambings per year not uncommon. While St Croix are most suited to warm climates, they adapt to colder climates by producing a heavy winter coat of mixed wool and hair that is shed in spring.
