Enhanced IDE allows you to attach hard disks of larger than 528 megabytes (the largest normal IED will handle) up to a maximum of 8.4 gigabytes. Enhanced IDE has a data transfer rate of between 11 and 13 megabytes per second, compared to the 2 to 3 megabytes per second, which normal IDE drives sport.
