Player versus player, or PvP, is a type of multiplayer interactive combat within a game between two or more live players. On PvE (player versus environment) realms there are two kinds of "core" PVP to choose from, the small-scale Arena (from 2vs2 to 5vs5) and Battlegrounds, which start with 10vs10 up to full-scale 40 man raids. On PvP realms, outside of capital cities and starter areas, the various regions of the world are considered contested areas, meaning PvP combat is possible at any time. Player vs. Player realms are known as "war" realms, in a constant state of war between factions, and a player might be attacked at any time in "un-safe" zones, without choice. On PvE realms, the player is given the choice.
