Lander University has been providing educational and cultural opportunities since its founding in 1872 as Williamston Female College in Williamston, SC. The college moved to Greenwood, SC in 1904 and was renamed Lander in honor of its founder, Samuel Lander. Lander is now a four-year, coeducational, state-assisted university offering majors and minors in more than 40 areas of study. Among the degrees offered by Lander are the bachelor of arts, the bachelor of music education, the bachelor of science, the master of arts in teaching and the master of elementary education. An M.B.A. program is offered on the Lander campus by Clemson University. Lander University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's and master's level degrees. Additionally, its baccalaureate program in Nursing is approved by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The School of Education is fully accredited by the NCATE.
