Local railways, usually branch lines, supported and promoted by partnerships of local authorities, operators, voluntary organisations, and local businesses.

This support is usually through Community Rail Partnerships (CRP) or sometimes by Rail User Groups.

Railways which are not part of the national network, or are clearly heritage and/or restoration projects may be considered for listing in Recreation and Sports and/or Tourist Attraction categories for an appropriate Locality.
