In contrast to Niagara Falls, where hotels outnumber bed and breakfast establishments by a wide margin, Niagara-on-the-Lake has only a handful of the first and an abundance of the second. Moreover, there is scant hope of any change in the ratio, given the acute shortage of available space where more hotels could be built. And those that do exist are invariably full during the main summer weekends. The one consoling thought is that at one time -- and this is less than a decade ago -- you needed to book three years in advance if you wanted stay overnight during the height of the season!
