East Hampton [Middlesex County] was named Chatham in 1767 from the importance of its shipbuilding, an allusion to Chatham, England. It was incorporated from Middletown in 1767 and named changed in 1915.

Area, 36.8 sq. miles. Population, est., 11,052. Voting districts, 1. Principal industries, manufacture of bells, paper boxes, witch hazel, tools and dies, forestry.

East Hampton includes the villages of Cobalt and Middle Haddam.
