Total area, 19.5 sq. miles, Land area, 19.5 sq. miles. Population, 2000 Census, 3,350. Voting Districts, 1. Principal industries, agriculture, manufacture of medical and surgical instruments, lime and limestone products, magnesium and calcium metals, electrical coils, sand and stone.

Canaan village (that is, the place that most maps identify with a dot labeled "Canaan") and the area called East Canaan are both in the town of North Canaan.
