Vernon [Tolland County] was formerly known as North Bolton and likely named from the home of George Washington at Mount Vernon. It was incorporated in 1808.

Area, 18.1 sq. miles. Population, 2000 Census, 28,063. Voting districts, 7. Principal industries, anodizing, metal surface treatments, bacteriological media production, communications equipment, fire retardant paints, dyeing and finishing of fabrics, plastics, tools and dies, woodworking.

The Town of Vernon and the City of Rockville were consolidated in July of 1965 and are collectively known as Vernon-Rockville. This includes the areas of Middlefield and Talcottville.

Vernon is part of the Capitol Region Metropolitan District in Connecticut.
