The Corps of Engineers has eight research facilities located across the country. Laboratories do not fall under the hierarchical structure of Divisions and function to support the entire specrum of activities undertaken by the Corps of Engineers. Laboratories tend to have a small subject group on which their research focuses.

Focuses on research activities of the CERL. Research goals are to provide coordination with communities in regard to military operations in adjacent areas. Also includes information on cultural resources research, land management, seismic engineering, endangered species and environmental restoration.

Information on research related to hydrologic engineering and water resources planning and management. Conducts research, training, planning, analysis, and technical assistance, and incorporates state-of-the-art procedures and techniques into manuals and computer programs.
