Magnet schools attract students from throughout the city and offer a curriculum centered on a specific theme, such as math/science, fine arts, world language, or humanities. Most Elementary Magnet Schools have no entrance test requirements; students are accepted through a computerized lottery, according to space availability and racial guidelines established by the Student Desegregation Plan. Transportation is provided to students attending Elementary Magnet Schools who live more than 1.5 miles but less than 6 miles from the school.
