Charlotte "Lottie" Moon (1840-1912) was a Baptist missionary to China. Spending nearly 40 years on the field, she faced starvation along with the Chinese people rather than abandon the people to whom she had devoted the better part of her life. As a famine plaguing the land worsened and Moon's health continued to deteriorate, she was eventually convinced to return home for a short furlough. But the decision came to late. Moon died on Christmas Eve 1912, while the ship that was to have taken her back to her homeland was docked at Kobe, Japan.
