The South East District covers an area mainly south of London, its northerly boundaries running along the southern part of the M25. It also reaches from Maidenhead to Chichester, then along the coast to Ramsgate. But it also includes Malta and Gibraltar. It was created in September 2006 from the two London Districts, South East and South West. These stretched much further out than London, the London South East district, for example, reaching to Dover and Deal. Two new districts have also been created called London and the other Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire.
