Robert was born on October 6, 1969, in St. Louis, Mo. The oldest of two kids, Robert played all of the major sports growing up, excelling on the football field and the basketball court, as well as in karate. His burning passion, however, was the baseball diamond. All summer long, Robert played ball until after dark. He enjoyed pitching, but his burning passion was playing either shortstop or centerfield and swinging the bat. Robert could win a game with his bat, glove, arm or speed. St. Louis has a rich baseball tradition and Robert competed in all of the youth leagues growing up, including the University City Association. He also competed in cities like Baldwin and Olin, Missouri. Robert also competed in the AAU / USA Junior Olympics. His family made incredible sacrifices to attend his games and watch him compete.
