Born May 30, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas. Two-time All-American at Kansas. Played for the Chicago Bears from 1965 to 1971. His career was cut short by two devastating knee injuries. After football, became CEO of a computer company. Was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 and had his number 40 retired by the Chicago Bears in 1994. He may be more famous for the made-for-TV movie Brian's Song, which portrays Sayers' friendship with teammate Brian Piccolo and Piccolo's struggle with cancer. The original was broadcast in 1971, and a re-make broadcast in 2001. It was adapted from Sayers' autobiography I am Third.
